Our first event of the year! As we returned to campus, we held a BLSA welcome back event for members, faculty and sponsors to come together, share space, eat good food and bask in the joy of community.

Part 3 of our 2L Recruit Series were Mock OCIs in collaboration with the South Asian Law Student's Association (SALSA)

Undergrad Personal Statement Review
As part our of outreach and mentorship initiatives, we invited undergraduate students and individuals applying to law school to submit their personal statements for review by our experienced law students.

GTA Mixer -- Presented by Blakes
In collaboration with the BLSA chapters at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall, we held the biggest local mixer of Black law students, with over 100 attendees. Members were able to mingle with counterparts at Toronto's 3 law schools, eat great food from a local Black owned business, and dance the night away basking in Black joy!

1L Recruit Series - The One About the 1L Recruit!
As we head into the winter semester we've partnered with students, lawyers and firms to plan great series to help BLSA students and beyond secure jobs.

Special Engagement Celebration!
To celebrate the engagement of our 1L member Kingsley, we threw an engagement party!

1L Recruit Series (Pt. 1) - Upper Year Student Panel
With the help of five upper year Lincoln Law students, we put on a panel event open to all 1L students at Lincoln Alexander, providing key insights into the regulated recruit process.

Black Lunch Hour
Each week we hold a community gathering open to members and allies to share space and good vibes!

Movie Night!
As a de-stress event our membership held a movie to promote community and wellness!

1L Recruit Series (Pt. 2) - Resume & Cover Letter Review
To better prepare our BLSA Lincoln members and Lincoln Law peers we were able to a resume and cover letter review event.

1L Recruit Series (Pt. 3) - Law Recruiter Panel and Application Workshop
In collaboration with the BLSA chapters at the University of Toronto, Queen's Law and Windsor Law, we jointly held a virtual recruiter panel and application workshop. This event provided invaluable guidance to all of our members on what to include to give them a competitive edge and get them the jobs they desire!

1L Recruit Series (Pt. 4) - Mock Interviews (Hosted by Cassels)
With the amazing support from the talent recruitment team at Cassels, we were able in collaboration with the BLSA chapters at the University of Toronto and Queen's Law, to hold mock interviews to simulate the interview process and give our collective members a keen idea of how they should prepare for OCIs

Community Outreach
Reaching beyond our immediate community and peers is a pillar of our chapter. As part of our Black History Month programming we held a month long charity clothing drive, collecting gently used clothes donated by Lincoln Law students, to be delivered to a Black Centred charity based in Toronto

1L Recruit Series (Pt. 5) - Linkedin Headshots
The final part of our 1L Recruit series included a Linkedin Headshot event with a professional photographer. This event was open to all Lincoln Law Students and provided an opportunity for students to get professional headshots free of cost!

Black History Month (2024) -- MLSE Networking Event
To kick off our Black history Month programming, BLSA Lincoln was invited to attended a networking event held by MLSE. Some of our members were able to speak to company executives, make connections and attend a Marlies hockey game honouring the contributions of Black staff and athletes.

Black Futures Week(Pt. 1) --Exclusive AGO Tour
To end Black History Month with a BANG, our first event of the week included an exclusive guided tour of the 'Life Between Islands: Caribbean-British Art, 1950s–Now' exhibit at the AGO. Members toured and learned about the Black-Caribbean diaspora through art and cultural items and we were again able to show appreciation for the greatness of our ancestors and those who came before us.

Black Futures Week(Pt. 2) -- Trivia Night
The second event of our Black Futures Week programming included a BLSA exclusive trivia night! Members were able to come to together, eat some yummy food, play rounds of exciting trivia and family feud and bask in the joy community

Black Futures Week(Pt. 3) -- BLSA x OUTLaws Informal social
The final event of our Black Futures Week programming included an informal social at the club Crews & Tangos in Toronto, with members of the Lincoln Alexander chapter of OUTLaws.

Black Lunch Hour Presents: Mentorship Monday
Once a month we have been able to offer a special Black Lunch Hour event called 'Mentorship Monday' which includes bringing in a speaker(s) including articling students, associates, partners and more to give Lincoln Law students essential guidance and tips for how to break into the legal industry, rise up through the ranks and maintain success.

WOCinlaw x BLSA: Trailblazing the Legal Workplace
In collaboration with the prelaw student group, Women of Colour in Law at TMU, we held a Lunch and learn event, graciously hosted by Blakes. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from women lawyers and see themselves reflected in the profession

The Tea About Being a Black law Student Summit
In March 2024, in collaboration with the Black Future lawyers (TMU Chapter) and the Black Business Students' Association at TMU, we held our second annual 'Tea About Being a Black law Student' Pre-law Summit. We were lucky to have the Honourable Justice Lori Anne Thomas in attendance, to share her insights and inspire the next generation of Black lawyers to see themselves in the profession and on the bench. We also had a wonderful panel of law students who gave helpful tips and advice for all attendees.
